ABOUT US

Envirochild is a non profit organisation in Hout Bay. A small but growing group of volunteers who want to help promote a sustainable future in this beautiful valley.

We are promoting Hout Bay as a Transition Town - one of 1000 (so far) cities and towns around the world who are taking responsibility for their own sustainability. Our quartely Green faire is one of our projects.

We invite all residents of Hout Bay to participate - either by attending our Faire, participating as a green exhibitor and promoting your product or service, or getting involved in one of our projects.
See our main website www.houtbaytransitiontown.org for more info.

You'll find all the contact details there but if you'd like to exhibit at the Faire contact talfryn@envirochild.org

PLEASE JOIN THIS COMMUNITY NETWORK AND INTERACT WITH US AND OTHERS ABOUT THE KIND OF FUTURE WE CAN CREATE IF WE WORK TOGETHER

We plan for change by easing our dependence on globalized systems for food, energy, transportation, health, and housing. We strengthen our community and our environment by becoming more self sufficient and more conscious of our impact.

We connect with each other and share our skills, our knowledge and our ideas for a better way of doing things.
We don't rely on the government to fix our problems - we get involved and find solutions.

Please join in and make suggestions, leave your opinions, offer your services. Let us know if you would like to participate in current or new projects or just lend your moral support by being a member of this site.

THE HOUT BAY GREEN FAIRE

Envirochild held their second Green Faire in Hout Bay on 28th Feb- a fun day for the whole family with a wide range of alternative, practical, healthy and eco friendly products and services, music, games for kids, awareness movies and talks, and tasty, wholesome food.

On show were renewable energy, ‘green’ technology and services supporting a sustainable lifestyle, demonstrations of grey water systems, solar, wind power and composting/dry toilets . For the builder or homeowner there were various ‘eco-building’ exhibits with demos, sandbag house displays and different methods of saving energy in one’s home.

Vegetable seedlings and worm bins were for sale and food stalls promoting healthy, vegetarian, organic food in low-impact packaging.

The 3R’s (Recycle Reuse Reduce) demonstrated how to separate garbage, clean it and put in the correct container: simple recycling. And Waste Plan introduced their easy recucling service here in Hout Bay, where they will collect all your recuclable items.

‘Awareness Films and Talks’ showed a variety of thought provoking movies in the Hall and discussions afterwards were encouraged.Sue Visser from Naturefresh spoke on how to use ordinary foods as medicine.
Jamie Jupiter entertained in the late afternoon and even the music was powered by renewable energy i.e. solar power.
