1. BECOME WATER WISE
Water is becoming a very valuable resource that we can no longer take for granted.
• Drinking Water - Tap water is not usually safe for drinking so we need to ensure the water we drink is as pure as possible and if it isn't then focus on it for a few moments before drinking it by infusing love and gratitude into the molecules. The structure will improve.
• Gardening Water - Invest in a rain water collection tank to water your garden. Explore Grey Water Systems to utilise your washing water for watering your garden.

2. CONSUME LESS / REDUCE WASTE / POWER DOWN
• It takes a lot of resources to manufacture goods we usually use temporarily. Check if you really need the next item you're about to buy. The less goods we demand, the less impact on our resources.
• Avoid products with excess packaging, bring your own bags when shopping, reuse things or pass them onto someone who can.
• Be aware of where you can reduce your energy usage, from switching off lights, using washing lines instead of tumble dryers, unplugging cables, switching off devices, using less fuel, etc. You save yourself money, reduce electromagnetic radiation around you and reduce the masses of energy used for no necessary purpose.

3. EAT LOCAL / GROW LOCAL
• Much energy is used to bring food from far away. Look for local organic or homemade sources of food - it's better for your health and helps save energy. Avoid processed food.
• Eat produce that’s in season – anything else has come a long way and required lots of fuel and refrigeration to get to there.
• Start a veggie garden to supplement your meals with the healthiest, safest ,freshest produce. If you dont have the space or the time - look for a community growing scheme and join it - or start one with friends.

4. EXPLORE PERMACULTURE DESIGN FOR SUSTAINABILITY
• If you're planning on building or extending or landscaping - explore the concept of permaculture in all your designs. Permaculture involves the harmonious integration of landscape and people providing their food, energy, shelter, and other material and non-material needs in a sustainable way

5. BUILD COMMUNITYOur strength and resilience will come from a strong community.
• Get to know your neighbours, join our www.greendrinks.org informal monthly gatherings to meet and explore ideas.
• Join our community website www.greenhoutbay.org and start a discussion.
• Attend our quarterly Green Faires and participate.
• Attend the weekly Awareness Movies for a broader understanding of the realities of the world we live in.
• Check out our www.houtbaytransitiontown.org website and see if there are any projects you could help with or start your own. We are transitioning into a town that takes responsibility for our own sustainability. We need your input.

6. CREATE ECONOMIC ALTERNATIVES
• Think of alternative ways to trade
• join the Talent Exchange at www.ces.org.zm . The less dependent we are on money and credit the better.

7. CELEBRATE THE CYCLE OF LIFE
The more we understand how Nature works, the more we will be naturally inclined to live a more eco conscious, sustainable lifestyle.
• Celebrate the solstices, equinoxes - • Become aware of the moon and how it affects what you plant in your garden, notice it’s effects on your mood and the tides
• Know what fruits and veggies grow in each seasonal cycle and seek them out or plant them

7 SIMPLE ATTITUDES THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE, YOUR COMMUNITY AND THE WORLD.
